Explanation of terms

Translation - organisation of the plane in relation to its own vertical and horizontal proportions. Affirmation of the stability of the space to be covered in paint.

First stage of rotation. Inclination of the plane to right and left preparing the eye to enter into a rhythmic movement in time.

Space/Figure - essentially rectilinear, stable and spatial but preparing the way for the next stage through the inclination of the planes.

Time/Cadence. The eye enters into movement through the rhythmic and essentially circular succession of colours, following the order of the rainbow/colour circle.

Eternity/Form. The overall circular movement affirmed in its simplicity. In Gleizes's 'traditional painting' of the 1930s it is affirmed with an arabesque in grey, which evokes the complementary of all the colours it passes.
